Yes folks, it’s that time of year again. We all knew it was coming. I knew it was coming and I ignored it again. I am starting this blog in an effort to get my family out of a mountain of debt, and our debt resembles Mount Everest right now. We have refinanced the house three times in the past two years to pay off debt. Now we have a bigger mortgage, and we racked up the credit card charges again. Here it is Christmas again, our credit cards are almost maxed out, we have practically no savings, and our checking account is very overdrawn. This is not good. I am done with this madness.
I have read all of the Dave Ramsey books, and some Mary Hunt books as well. I tend to lean towards Mary Hunt’s way of doing things. I have some re-reading to do. I just started reading Mary Hunt’s The Complete Cheapskate again. I am taking notes this time. This time things will be different. I vow to pay myself first and make a budget. My family has to eat before the credit cards are paid! Let’s do this!
After having said all of that, I have to say that since we do not have a dime to spend until after payday at the end of the month, we are emphasizing family time. We will have quiet time at home, bake Christmas cookies, attend our Unitarian Universalist church for the first time in months, and find fun free things to do – like our neighborhood’s holiday parade tomorrow morning. Yay!
